The insanity.....

Oh my, I am sitting here in my kitchen astonished by all that has happened in the last 24 hours.  We had a brief meeting yesterday to prepare us for the possibility of schools closing due to the virus.  We were told to begin to develop a plan for our students to learn digitally. Nothing concrete, just a rough outline of what we could do.

Today around 10, my team met to come up with a plan. In our typical fashion, came up with a chart, met with the principal and knocked a few subjects out.  We had to meet after school to finish up our first week. We were still operating on the assumption that this would be for "if" and that we did not need to go beyond a week already. We were so wrong...

Around 4 this afternoon, I texted my team a tweet that said the governor recommended that all schools close.  By 4:30 the message was out that we were closing on Monday until further notice.  WOW!  I can't even get my mind around that.  At the same time, I see that so many sports teams, colleges, and various other places were shutting down, too.  Double WOW!  Things are changing so fast, I can't keep up.

Tomorrow will be another crazy day as we send the kids off with materials and assignments.  I just hope that with all of this diligence that we are able to lessen the severity of the spread of the virus. For now, keep washing your hands....

  1. I am astounded by the changes that are happening, in response to this virus. My state schools (Maryland) just announced that they were closed for the rest of March. Unbelievable. I teach in D.C...we'll see what happens, but it sure feels unsettled and weird and ominous...

  2. It is really amazing how things can change so quickly. Our district is asking us to ready online work, but has yet to say anything concrete. I am sure it will be surreal when they do. Your description was great, here, perfectly showing what you are dealing with.

  3. I am in Oregon and was at with my team and 150 6th graders. We had arrived Tuesday and were supposed to stay until Friday. Wednesday night as the kids were singing at Campfire, my phone rang. It was my principal saying we were being picked up Thursday morning. Away for technology, I hadn't heard the extent of what was happening nationally. What a surprise.

  4. I can't even believe what I'm hearing, every day more and more. I mean, we will figure it all out, and I'm feeling thankful it's in an effort to keep people healthy and safe. But still, so so amazing how it changes, like you said!

  5. I wrote about the move to provide online education today in my piece. I feel for you all. It is not as easy as it sounds. I am in Wisconsin and there are no plans yet to cancel school, as far as I know. But, as you all recognized, change is happening quickly all around us and we do anticipate it will happen here too.

  6. Speeding up the measures makes it feel even weirder, doesn't it. It is astonishing. Take care and be in good health.

Wow! I don't think a person realizes how quickly time moves until you are taking note of the days.  I completed a burpee challenge in F...
